Hello from Decoder

Welcome to the inaugural Decoder newsletter. This will help us to update you on the projects we’ve been working on and report on any interesting news snippets.

We plan to produce these on a quarterly basis so won't be filling up your inbox. Please feel free to comment on the content of the newsletter by emailing info@decoder.co.uk

Mine’s a single Malt

It’s always great when you are recommended to a new client. This happened to us in October of last year when a friend of the agency referred us to premium Scotch Whisky brand, Glenfiddich. Following a credentials presentation – against three other agencies – we were appointed to produce the 2006 gift packs. It’s been a great project to be involved in. We’ve met some smashing people and, needless to say, had fun researching the market!

You’ll understand the sensitivities around reporting on a project in progress, but just to say that we were pleased that our favourite designs were the ones chosen by the client. We now have the long (but exciting) wait to see them on the shelves from November 2006.

Our BT moment

As many of you will be aware we recently moved office, trading in the hustle and bustle of Soho for the relative tranquillity of North London. We’d like to formally thank all of our clients for their patience during this time, where we had an anxious two-week wait to get connected courtesy of our friends at BT!

We’re fully settled in now, aside from the odd unpacked box and shelves to put up. You will no doubt have seen our Moving Card, but just in case you didn’t, our new contact details are at the foot of this email. We hope you can visit us one day and promise to have the tea and biscuits ready.

Ceramic Central

A nice project to kick off the New Year has been the corporate identity work for new client, Ceramic Central, a start-up ceramic café based in the Midlands. Ceramic cafés are a relatively recent phenomenon and are where all the family can go and hand paint a piece of pottery of their choice, a mug or plate for instance.

Quite a challenge, the logo had to appeal to both adults and kids alike. The client commented: "I was spoilt for choice and could have gone for any of several great designs. The final logo has the combination of style and fun I was hoping to achieve. Thanks Decoder".

Due to open in March, we wish Ceramic Central the best of luck and will show the roll-out work – print, signage and online – in the next newsletter.

Calendar events of 2005

We like to think that every passing year is one to remember with affection, so here’s a look back at some of Decoder's 2005 highlights:

  • In March, we re-launched the Accountancy Age recruitment website for VNU with a campaign that covered press, print and web.
  • March 17th is of course St Patrick’s Day and we celebrated by sending our clients the now legendary Chocolate Potatoes.
  • Nick became a father when baby daughter Claudia arrived in April.
  • May also saw the arrival of the last Star Wars film which was a major event for some members of the Nolan household!
  • August saw the Student Fashion Awards hosted by Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker and held at the prestigious Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. We spent the summer months creating the identity and support materials for the event.
  • In September, we were appointed as a preferred supplier for Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker.
  • We were delighted in October to begin working on the 2006 gift packs for Glenfiddich.
  • November saw us move office to United House, Islington, which we are told is the longest building in London and was a horse-drawn bus factory in the 19th century.
  • For the fourth year running, we sent our clients charity gifts. You have now provided 64 chickens, 14 desks and chairs, 21 goats, 4 pigs, 4 seed and tool kits, 220 trees and finally, not forgetting 1 water well to families across the world. Many thanks to all our clients who have sent their support and encouragement.
